TERMS OF USE

The deal, in plain words.

Making puzzles here is free and stays free. Asking the AI to write the words runs on a monthly allowance, then on credit you buy. Everything below is the long form of that.

Who you are agreeing with

These are the terms between you and WordQuest, the team behind this site and the studio. Using either one means you accept them. If you do not, please do not use it. Questions go to hello@wordquest.studio.

Your account

You need to be sixteen or over, and the account is yours rather than your school's, so it goes with you if you move. There are no passwords: we email you a link and show a six digit code on the device that asked for it. Treat both as you would a password, and tell us if you think someone else has them. One account per person, and the details you give us should be true.

What costs nothing

Typing or pasting your own words, laying them out, resizing the grid, editing clues, restyling the page, exporting the PDF, printing it and reprinting it later all cost nothing, with or without an account, and we do not plan to change that. There is no subscription and no seat count.

What the AI costs

  • Every account gets 3 AI generations a month free, and 10 once we have verified you are a teacher. The count resets monthly and does not roll over.
  • After that a generation is 12 credits and a single word or clue reroll is 2 credits, taken from credits you buy in advance, in packs from $5. Credits do not expire by age, and unused credits may be forfeited only after 24 months with no sign-in. Refunds cover unspent credits.
  • A generation that fails is never charged. If one is charged and does not come back usable, tell us and we will put it back.
  • Delete your account and we refund any balance you paid for to the card you paid with. Bonus credit we added on top of a top-up is not money and is not paid out.
  • We can change prices, but not retroactively: credit already in your balance keeps buying at the price it was bought for that month, and we will tell you before a change takes effect.

Our name on free sheets

A sheet printed without a free generation or a balance left carries a small "Made with WordQuest" line in the footer and the same words set faintly behind the grid. That is the only thing we ask in return for a studio that is otherwise free, so please do not remove, crop or cover it. When you have an allowance or a balance, the sheet prints clean and you can put your own school line in the footer instead.

Your words stay yours

The topics, words, clues and worksheets you make belong to you. You give us permission to store them, draw them, turn them into PDFs and send the topic and words to our AI provider, all so the product can do what you asked, and for nothing else. We do not use your puzzles to train models and we do not sell them. Print your worksheets, photocopy them, hand them round your department, use them commercially: they are yours, as long as our name stays on the free ones.

What not to do here

  • Do not put pupil names or any other personal data about a child into a puzzle.
  • Do not use it for anything unlawful, hateful, sexual or otherwise unfit for a classroom. There is a filter on both what you type and what the AI writes, and it will drop words rather than print them.
  • Do not script, scrape or hammer the service, and do not resell access to the AI through it.
  • Do not try to get round the allowance, the credit system or the attribution line.
  • Do not share one account between a staffroom. Each teacher has their own free allowance.

What the AI is and is not

The model writes words and clues that read well for the level you picked. It is not a subject expert and it is sometimes wrong. Read the sheet before you photocopy thirty of them. Every word and clue is editable, and a single one can be rerolled without redoing the set. If a clue is wrong or unsuitable, report it from the studio and we will look at it.

Availability

We do not promise an uptime figure. We will take the service down for maintenance now and then, and we may pause AI generation entirely if a provider fails or costs run away. While it is paused, the studio still works and you can still print: only the generate button goes quiet, and nothing is charged.

Ending it

Delete your account whenever you like, from the account page. We can suspend or close an account that breaks the rules above, and we will tell you why. If we close the service down altogether, we will give you notice, refund unspent credit that was paid for, and leave the export working long enough for you to take your puzzles with you.

Where we stand if something goes wrong

We give you the service as it is. Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us exclude, and if you are a consumer your legal rights are untouched. Beyond that, we are not liable for lost profits, lost time or indirect losses, and our total liability to you is capped at what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Changes, and which law applies

We will post changed terms here with a new date, and email account holders when the change is a real one. Carrying on using WordQuest after that means you accept them. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts there have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the UK or the EEA, you keep the protection of your own country's law and can bring a claim in your own courts.
